The exhibition “F.C. Gundlach. You’ll Never Watch Alone” at the Bucerius Kunst Forum (Alter Wall 12, 20457 Hamburg) pays tribute to Hamburg photographer Franz Christian Gundlach (1926–2021) and focuses on his iconic fashion photography, which has long since become part of museum collections. Starting from early works for “Film und Frau” from 1953 to commissions for magazines such as “Stern”, “Twen” and “Quick”, the exhibition traces Gundlach’s path as a freelance photographer. His role as a formative figure in the history of photography – as gallery owner, collector, curator and founder as well as founding director of the House of Photography in the Deichtorhallen – is also taken into consideration.
