In the Schaezlerpalais Augsburg, the exhibition devotes itself to the art history of a central pictorial motif: self-portrait. Under the title Reflection and Representation – Artists and their Self-Portraits, the focus is on those works in which artists stage, question and position themselves. The exhibition location on Maximilianstraße also places the theme in a traditional museum context. For the period from 1 January to 31 December 2026, the presentation opens up a historical approach to questions of identity, role and artistic self-expression. In the interplay between work and context, it becomes visible how self-portraits mediate between personal reflection and public representation.
