BIG TINGS tells the story of a musical culture that is far more than music. Reggae, dancehall and soundsystem culture stand for community, identity, resistance and cultural exchange. Over decades, they have connected people and left their mark far beyond Jamaica—including in Stuttgart, which has developed into one of the most important centres of the German reggae and dancehall scene. The exhibition at the StadtPalais traces this extraordinary development and explores the cultural, political and social dimensions of a movement that has shaped generations. From the origins of Jamaican soundsystem culture and the emergence of ska, rocksteady, dub, reggae and dancehall to Stuttgart’s vibrant scene, it presents a multifaceted picture of a global culture that continues to inspire people to this day.
