French artist Sarah Braeck explores the ability of marine algae to bind carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Her point of departure is research photographs by Hagen Buck-Wiese of the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, which Braeck processes using, among other materials, water, ink, and reflective materials. The exhibition thus connects scientific insights into the role of algae in the carbon cycle with a painterly visual language.
