The exhibition examines book covers from the 1930s as means of political expression and as sites of social conflict. Drawing on physical originals, it considers photography, typography, material, colour and format in their historical context, relating visual design to the political and journalistic developments of the period. The collaborative project with Photoinstitut Bonartes also invites reflection on propaganda, manipulation and the signalling power of media design up to the present day.
