In May 1973, photojournalist Diether Endlicher documented the drive of Ahrntal farmers’ livestock to the alpine pastures from Kasern in South Tyrol across the Krimmler Tauern to the Achental in Pinzgau. His photographs illustrate the approximately twenty-kilometre route over steep paths, snow and the Italian–Austrian border, as well as the enormous physical effort of people and animals.
