The special exhibition takes visitors into the Devonian Sea, which covered the area of today’s Rhine Valley around 400 million years ago. Fossils and, in some cases, unique new discoveries illustrate the world of life at that time, with corals, mussels, crinoids, arthropods and armoured fish; the exhibition also commemorates 50 years of the Palaeontological Working Group. Large-format photographs by Klaus Hammerl complement the exhibits and reveal the diversity of Devonian slate in the Middle Rhine Valley.
