Although Transylvania has no access to the sea, the sea recurs as a motif in the works of numerous artists from the region. Paintings, watercolours, drawings and prints from the museum collection trace coastal landscapes, harbours and boats from the late nineteenth century to the present, showing how political upheavals, migration and new opportunities for travel transformed visual language.
