The special exhibition explores the history of children’s therapeutic stays in Bad Sassendorf since the late 19th century and presents various boarding houses, homes, and large treatment facilities in the town. It also focuses on the recollections of former children sent away for such stays, including experiences of violence and abusive conditions; photographs by Max Brugger connect these personal stories with the present. The exhibition was developed in collaboration with the Historical Seminar at the University of Münster and the Association for the Reappraisal of Child Placements in North Rhine-Westphalia.
