In the Sauerland Museum in Arnsberg, the exhibition “Macherland. Where Industry Writes History” is dedicated to the industrial history of a region whose development is closely linked to wood, water and mineral resources. From 19 June 2026 to 4 April 2027, it focuses on the early entrepreneurial beginnings of the 19th century as well as the conditions under which Sauerland industrialized. The starting point is also the 175th anniversary of the Arnsberg Chamber of Commerce, Hellweg-Sauerland. The exhibition traces how difficult starting conditions and initial start-ups developed into a formative economic landscape that later became one of the strong industrial regions of North Rhine-Westphalia.
