In the Sprengel Museum Hannover, a central part of the collection will be permanently re-presented with Adventure Abstraction – From Modernism to the Present. In 19 rooms, an overview of non-objective art from the beginning of the 20th century to the present unfolds, spread across different media such as painting, sculpture, graphics, photography, film and spatial works. The exhibition combines art-historical lines with the view of Hanover as a place of abstract art. In addition to historical reference points such as the replicas of Kurt Schwitters’ Merzbau and El Lissitzky’s Cabinet of Abstracts, it also focuses on the treatment of art and artists in the city during National Socialism. It begins on 16 March 2026 in the permanent exhibition of the Haus am Kurt-Schwitters-Platz.
