The group exhibition Why Painting? Memes und digitale Bildkultur in der Malerei brings together positions that translate digital image culture and pop-cultural aesthetics into painting. Works by Thomas Baldischwyler, Johannes Bendzulla, Julius Hofmann and Marta Vovk are presented. The show explores how web culture, advertising, glitches and critique of post-capitalism shape painterly images and questions of identity, oscillating between banality and pathos. The exhibition is on view at Neue Galerie Gladbeck from 28 August to 25 October 2026 and admission is free.
