The exhibition “Joyce Pensato” at Sammlung Falckenberg focuses on the American painter Joyce Marie Pensato. She became known for her engagement with pop culture and comic figures such as Batman, Mickey Mouse and Homer Simpson. Her works include wall painting, enamel on canvas and charcoal on paper, and they connect American cartoons with Abstract Expressionism. The works use only black and white; the paint is smeared, scraped and reapplied in layers, while the contours are softened.
