The exhibition Heavenly Reunion. From Ludwig I to the Blue Rider in the Diocesan Museum Freising focuses on 19th-century art in Munich and its change to the threshold of modernity. In the tension between political upheaval, religious pictorial tradition and new artistic expressions, an epoch unfolds that is shaped by the patronage of Ludwig I as well as by the diversity of later styles. At the same time, the show asks about the relationship between church and art in a time when religious themes had to regroup. Between Late Nazareth, Realism, Impressionism, Art Nouveau and the Blue Rider, it becomes apparent how visual language and artistic self-image changed. 17 March to 26 July 2026, Domberg 21 in Freising.
