To mark its 25th anniversary, the Prinzhorn Collection examines how visual artworks produced in psychiatric contexts can be appropriately exhibited, although many were originally created neither for the public nor as art. Iconic works appear in new forms of presentation: Else Blankenhorn’s handmade banknotes are reprinted, Katharina Detzel’s life-size doll is reconstructed, and Marie Lieb’s floor installation is once again made spatially accessible. In doing so, the anniversary exhibition also reflects on the museum’s exhibition practice and its ethical and art-historical premises.
