MAKING HISTORY. Hans Makart und die Salonmalerei des 19. Jahrhunderts

StartMay 6, 2024
EndDec 31, 2026
CategoryCollection
With MAKING HISTORY. Hans Makart and 19th-century salon painting, the Hamburger Kunsthalle shows a view of the art of historicism and its contradictory pictorial worlds. At the center is Hans Makart's monumental painting The Entry of Charles V in Antwerp from 1878, which has been part of the collection since 1879 and is considered a key work of the museum. It is complemented by other paintings and sculptures of the 19th century, many of them from the time of the founding of the Kunsthalle. The production in the Makart Hall follows on from historical forms of presentation and invites you to revisit the works in the field of tension between enjoyment, representation and critical consideration. Period: from 6 May 2024, Glockengießerwall 5.
