The exhibition "Making History" at the Hamburger Kunsthalle presents a significant selection of 19th century paintings and sculptures, including the famous scandal picture of Makart, which is shown for the first time after four years. This work, acquired in 1879, is considered a high point of historicism and shapes the museum's identity. In the representative Makart Hall, a total of 61 works are gathered, including founding pieces of the Kunsthalle such as Paul Delaroche’s “Cromwell in front of the coffin of Charles I” and Friedrich Karl Hausmann’s “Galilia in front of the Council”.
