The exhibition at the Lenbachhaus is dedicated to Joseph Beuys’ sculptures and environments from the Lothar Schirmer collection. In Franz von Lenbach’s former studio grand piano, his development can be traced from early sculptural work to large-scale spatial installations. On display in Munich, Luisenstraße 33, works such as the oven, bathtub and hare grave as well as central environments such as Show your wound and before leaving Camp I. The presentation opens up a concentrated view of Beuys’ understanding of material and space. Effectively show the span of an oeuvre that oscillates between object, sculpture and spatial setting.
