At the MK&G in Hamburg, the exhibition Inspiration Japan shows the newly presented collection East Asia. On display are paintings from the Edo period, Buddhist calligraphies and colored woodcuts from the private collection Walter Gebhard acquired in 2021. The works enter into a dialogue with objects from the collection of the house. On two floors, a wide view of Japanese-influenced visual worlds and design traditions unfolds. Painting and graphics open up poetic perspectives on plants and birds in East Asia. The show also marks the start of a new collection of East Asian art.
