Starting in February 2026, the Museum Ludwig in Cologne will have an exhibition dedicated to memory, image politics and cultural tradition. The starting point is photochromes from the Detroit Publishing Company from around 1900, which still convey defining ideas about the USA today. These historical pictorial worlds are juxtaposed with works by US artist Marie Watt. The presentation asks about the vacancies of such representations and draws attention to indigenous perspectives that are often overlooked in mainstream narratives about America.
