Stadt – Land – Sehnsucht asks what makes an image feel like home and when a landscape becomes a place of longing. The exhibition examines how towns and countryside were depicted and idealized in the 20th century, juxtaposing artworks with everyday objects such as porcelain, postcards and tourism posters. It presents key positions in southwest German landscape painting from the late 19th into the 20th century, supplemented by loans from regional museums and private collections. Interactive features—including a Baden-Württemberg memory game, a forest lounge with an audio station and a postcard creative area—encourage visitors to engage with the topics.
