The persistent sense of multiple existential threats is a central symptom of our contemporary social reality. Threats are expressed directly in individual perception, but they are also communicated through the media and thus shape the collective sensitisation of entire communities. Contemporary art often acts like a seismograph, registering with incredible sensitivity the ‘vibrations’ of every kind of danger and threat—both those that are tangibly present and those that can only be felt indirectly. How do artists from the neighbouring countries of Germany and Poland analyse similar threats? How do they respond to and process them, and what strategies of resilience or direct response do they develop?
